Advanced Hand-Building & Personal Expression – Sculptural Objects

Sculptural Objects is an 8-week advanced hand-building workshop designed for students who have completed From Slab to Sculpture or have equivalent experience, and who are ready to explore their own ideas with greater depth and independence.

In this workshop, you’ll select a concept or object that inspires you and develop it from initial sketches to a fully finished sculpture. The course emphasizes creative freedom, problem-solving, and technical refinement, encouraging you to push your hand-building skills while experimenting with form, structure, and surface.

Students work with slab construction, coil techniques, molds, and advanced surface approaches, learning how to plan and build more complex forms. Guidance is offered for structural problem-solving, content development, and decorative finishing, including texture, slip work, and glazing.

This class provides time and space for focused personal exploration, supporting experimentation, reflection, and thoughtful refinement. By the end of the 8-week workshop, you’ll leave with a completed sculptural piece that reflects your vision, technical skill, and evolving artistic voice.
