My studio practice is a mixed-media approach to ceramic art through the creation of quilted vessels. Through techniques of sewing, quilting and slip casting, my work investigates the shared material properties of clay and fabric. This process involves hand sewing a fabric object to be used as a positive for plaster molds. Each piece is then slip casted, allowing the plush, delicate qualities of the quilted surface to be captured in clay. The resulting work challenges the perception of clay as a rigid material that subverts expectations of ceramic surfaces.
