The process of making this piece, “worry bowls”, developed out of a need for a resource to hold or carry emotion. The clay itself is a material that carries memory – the movements that formed it, the shape it takes – the textures and lines record the relationship between material and maker. These tiny bowls, in multiple, act as a record and a resource in countless conversations, carrying the feelings and stories shared with me. Once exhibited, this becomes an interactive artwork and now a shared resource. These bowls are meant to be held and touched. The viewer is invited to pick up the bowls, to worry the surface with their fingers. The visible cracks, bumps,and lumps in each shape remind us of the tactile connection between body and object and offers a holding our mutual experience of being human.
