Mould Making & Slip Casting is a 2-month course designed for students who would like to expand their ceramic practice beyond hand-building and wheel throwing.
This course introduces the fundamentals of working with plaster moulds and liquid clay (slip). With the help of moulds, ceramic forms can be reproduced with precision, allowing artists to create a series of identical objects or explore shapes that are difficult to achieve by hand.
You will come to the studio once a week and learn the process step by step — from understanding how moulds work to creating your own one-part and two-part plaster moulds. Students will then use these moulds to produce slip-cast ceramic pieces.
Instruction is adapted to each student’s pace, with demonstrations and guided practice throughout the course. Alongside the technical aspects, we will also explore how mould making can become a creative tool for developing new forms and ideas in ceramics.
By the end of the course, students will have a basic understanding of plaster mould making and slip casting, and will have produced their own moulds and ceramic pieces.
