SOMEWHERE I REMEMBER
Why do some moments feel familiar to us, even when they have never been a part of our lives?
Some moments awaken within us a sense of familiarity, a feeling of home, without belonging to any specific memory, as though we are remembering a fragment of a distant past.
This body of work grew out of an exploration of this feeling, bringing together moments and images that may not belong to any particular life, yet somehow allow us to recognize traces of ourselves and our own experiences within them.
These works do not tell the story of a specific memory. Instead, they are unfinished moments, suspended between imagination and memory, inviting the audience to find their place in the space between what they have seen, lived, and remembered.
NEGIN AKBARI
Negin Akbari is an Iranian-Canadian multidisciplinary artist based in Toronto. Her artistic background began with Graphic Design and continued with a Bachelor’s degree in Sculpture, which she completed in 2024. Working across different forms and materials, Negin’s current practice is centered around her exploration of ceramics and the expressive possibilities of clay. Her work often emerges from an interest in the subtle connections that shape our relationships with one another, with animals, and with the world around us.
She is drawn to ordinary moments and the emotions they quietly carry, to gestures, encounters, relationships, and fleeting instances of connection. Through these observations, memory and belonging begin to surface, not as fixed narratives, but as feelings that drift between the deeply personal and the strangely familiar.
At the core of her practice is a quiet turning inward, guided by an attentive gaze toward the world around her. Making becomes a way of tracing her own inner landscape and opening pathways toward experiences and emotions that others may recognize as their own.
